About Us
Yuva Sangeetha Lahari (YSL) is a group of young students of Carnatic music, born and raised in the United States, passionate about this art form. In 2007, the group was formed under the leadership of Sri K.S. Mani and Sri Ramachandran Suresh, with a vision that practicing in small groups with people of similar ability leads to tremendous growth. They formed the group with a few senior students of Smt. Rajeswari Satish, Sri Ashvin Bhogendra, and Sri Ramachandran Suresh as an experiment in helping the students to improve, share and excel in the manodharma (improvisational) aspects of Carnatic music. This group currently includes students of the above teachers, and a student of Smt. Ramalakshmi Krishna. The group now consists of 7 vocalists, two violinists and two mridangists.
The students and teachers meet on a regular basis for rigorous practice. The teachers provide ideas and the students explore. This experiment, we believe, has been so successful that the students have gained a good amount of confidence, knowledge and inevitably, success. The children, parents, and teachers have come together into this non-profit venture, with only music in mind.
